McIntoshLinguistics editing model involves three core areas and focuses on their respective key activities. Also, it takes a bold approach to impact not only how we write but also how we learn to write in our current zeitgeist. This is a period that stipples our learning education landscape with generative AI.
We continuously build our model, which is a pedagogical (teaching) method, through information architecture (IA) and knowledge management (KM).
Watch this video about the core areas and their respective key activities.
Why we do what we do
To create educational content
Educational content and resources are available from several reputable sources. However, there is a cost to access these platforms. The following are some examples:
The New York Times administers The Learning Network Articles for licensing and content for education and resources for English learning. Their platform is “based on Times journalism” and geared towards English teaching and learning.
The Economist offers an online short course called “Professional Communication: Business Writing and Storytelling.”
A leading provider of digital education, the brand 2U offers online short courses.
But our objective through McIntoshLinguistics is to make access to our content FREE.
Another resource called “Word Choices: A New Video Series from Merriam-Webster advertises that “celebrated writers share their quest to find the right words.” As a strategy for education, we’ve added to this offering by compiling our own categorized list of websites.
To balance artificial intelligence (AI)
On the subject of AI, this BBC Future article offers valuable insights about the behaviour of writers and/or editors who use generative AI to perfect their works. A clear picture emerges about what these users are potentially forfeiting or compromising when a balance is not maintained between artificial intelligence and an emphasis on the learning education that results from problem-based learning.
Notwithstanding, eWeek.com compiled a list of “the 10 best AI writing tools for 2023, claiming, “AI writing tools are becoming increasingly popular for businesses and individuals alike.”
However, the following two articles highlight some of the shortcomings and/or the inferiority in some respects of generative AI:
What is the McIntoshLinguistics editing model?

Important terms
Pedagogy
Pedagogy is the art and science of teaching. Educators use a range of teaching strategies because there is no single, universal approach that suits all situations and learners.
Generative AI
Generative artificial intelligence (also generative AI or GenAI) is artificial intelligence capable of generating text, images, or other media, using generative models. Generative AI models learn the patterns and structure of their input training data and then generate new data that has similar characteristics.
Generative AI refers to deep-learning models that can generate high-quality text, images, and other content based on the data they were trained on.
Information architecture and knowledge management tools
Information architecture (IA) focuses on organizing, structuring, and labelling content in an effective and sustainable way. The goal is to help users find information and complete tasks.  To do this, you need to understand how the pieces fit together to create the larger picture, how items relate to each other within the system.
Knowledge management (KM) is the process of identifying, organizing, storing and disseminating information within an organization.

Data ontology and data taxonomy
The common ground between ontology in philosophy and in computer science is that it’s an attempt to describe everything that is, i.e., entities, ideas, and events, and all the relations between these things.
A data taxonomy is a hierarchical structure separating data into specific classes of data based on common characteristics. The taxonomy represents a convenient way to classify data to prove it is unique and without redundancy. This includes both primary and generated data elements.
What are MCINTOSHFORMS™ and regular expressions (“regex” or “regexp”)?
MCINTOSHFORMS™ are part of a process-method we developed. They refer to the specific pattern of text (the parameter) for which a searched is to be, or is being, executed in a MS Word document and the accompanying user instructions that define the parameter, including the search criterion, search option, or custom regex or lookup parameter.
Together, MCINTOSHFORMS™ and regular expressions meaningfully isolate grammatical forms (via Reading Highlight, which quickly finds highlighted text) using the Advanced Find tool in MS Word. This enables us to search for specific patterns that we will study/review, and to address any usage issues identified.
Our information architecture and knowledge management tools
Our IA involves maintaining a taxonomy (making data accessible) as well as an ontology (linking data).
Our KM tools involve using the Microsoft platform as a document management service for education to maintain our data ontology, and using WordPress as a content management system to maintain our data taxonomy.
Data-linking via data ontology and data-mapping via data taxonomy
Therefore, amongst the tools that we utilize to reap the benefits of knowledge management, we employ data-linking via data ontology and data-mapping via data taxonomy.
The following are the key reasons to subscribe to this model:
Use it to support educational processes and meet traditional publishing standards.
Create unique processes and methods through grammatical and linguistic studies.
Summary
Effectively, our pedagogy, our information architecture, is about attempting to describe every grammatical and linguistic element in your writing, from ideas to events, and then create the relationships between these things.
